Finding a person to talk to about your concerns can be very difficult. Often, being vulnerable with people that we know can lead to a level of exposure that can feel uncomfortable. Therapy provides a safe place for you to share your innermost thoughts and feelings with someone who accepts you for who you are. In which case, you can share feelings you may not feel comfortable sharing with friends or family.

While your Therapist is a person that is able to talk back to you in a way that is different than just writing in a journal, therapy does not include advice giving. Advice-giving is associated with many risks and can worsen the outcome of your mental health. Instead, your Therapist should respect your expertise as it relates to your life, and should assist you while you make well-thought-out and informed decisions about how you want to handle your life.

Your first therapy session is your initial assessment and will likely be your longest session. You will be asked personal information regarding your past, current issues or concerns, and future expectations. You will be provided with questionnaires designed to gain more understanding about your mental health. Lastly, you will discuss and review previously signed forms such as an Informed Consent packet highlighting important information about the treatment offered to you.

The length of therapy depends. Most therapy concludes within 12 to 18 sessions. However, this depends on many factors and will be clarified after your initial assessment. It can also be updated as you go through therapy.

There used to be a time when you could only receive therapy within an in-person office setting. However, times have changed, and so have mental health services. You will meet therapist at R.S.G Psych Services using a secured virtual site. You will be provided a link, you will need to click on that link prior to the start of your appointment time.
You secure a confidential space with appropriate lighting and be fully clothed within proper location. It is also recommended that you avoid driving during a therapy session.
